Day 17: The Mosque - Cathedral of Cordoba

Cordoba has been on my list for a while now so as soon as my friends left I went online and bought my bus tickets. It is a two and half hour bus ride from Grenada to Cordoba which is a perfect day trip. I woke up early got my day backpack ready and off i went. My friend’s house being on a hill high above Grenada with tortuous streets not trivial to navigate, so i decided to go down to the city then call an Uber which worked perfectly.. I was at the bus station way ahead of time which gave me time to get some breakfast. Needless to say that bus was on time and everything is done by QR codes in today’s world, no need for paper tickets anymore. So if your phone dies, you are toast :)… the ride to Cordo was very pleasant passing beautiful small towns and huge olive tree fields as far as the eye can see, so now i know where my olive oil comes from since i buy Spanish olive oil !!!

As soon as I left the bus in Cordo, the heat was intense!! It was around noon so to be expected in June!! So here again I go directly to a Taxi and ask for a ride to the cathedral as it is known here. This saves me time and gets me out of the heat !!! The mosque, or cathedral, area is beautiful.. the cobble stones and the beautiful old buildings puts you smack in the Middle Ages… needless to say i was in owe at all of this and just enjoying the place. I bought tickets for everything there is to see and most importantly the Mosque of Cordo which was my first site. When i entered the mosque I was speechless … i have seen pictures but being there brings another dimension..  here are pics of the day … enjoy and yes put Cordoba and Grenada and Seville on your bucket list … a must see

Note: Due to its amazing architecturale beauty, this mosque was preserved in its original form by the crusaders except for the addition of all the paintings and statues of the various saints which in Islam is not allowed.
