The debate in my head on how to get to Madrid then Grenada was settled .. I will be flying to Madrid then taking the train to Grenada, case closed! Easier said than done, at first i wanted to take the train to Madrid to see the countryside of both Portugal and Spain but the long ride, over 10 hours, made me rethink that! So i decided to fly to Madrid. I use the Omio and Booking Apps a lot in this trip. So the first ticket was bought using Omio, the airline was Air Europe (ae as their symbol) … never heard of this airline before and i was nervous to buy the ticket but I did anyway… After the transaction was over, i was pleased and I went to sleep… the next morning Omio sent a message that the booking did not go through with that ‘ae’ airline!!! Well, my gut feeling was correct and i got mad at myself for vetoing my gut feeling!!! Ugh… I went to the Booking App and searched again for flights and this time I went for an airline that i knew well, Iberian air, which is based out of Spain… it was more expensive but so be it I said … i need to get to Madrid by the hook or by the crook!! Then I started hunting for a hotel room around Madrid’s airport as i will be arriving late!! Once this was done .. Î took a deep breath and went out to get breakfast… Starbucks has been my go to place, they have large coffees and i know what i m getting .. my flight was late so i had plenty of time for a last walk in Lisbon… I did have to check out of the hotel by noon but the hotel could keep my bags for me until i decide to go to the airport. That was a great help … I took advantage of the late flight to have my last Portuguese paillela for lunch … By 4 pm i decided it was time to head over to the airport and go through security and settle in … Off course every airport is different so i needed to figure were the lines are, having an American passport makes things easy for us, we can move around in western europe without a visa which is great… the so called Schengen area or zone.. Before long I was out of the security zone and settled in the crowded lounges waiting for my flight…
Off course things have gone well sofar but before long they announced that my flight is delayed and i will reach Madrid after midnight… i had a hotel reservation so i should be ok but i did not know how far the hotel was from the airport.. the flight was comfortable and quick, a little more than an hour! After that go through customs and i was out .. it was 12:40 am !!! I took a taxi to my hotel which was at the end of the world or so it seems.. I took my room and just crashed … the end of a long day i said…
The trip to Grenada by train was uneventful, i did have to change train in Cordoba but it was fast… the train to Grenada was slower but the scenery was great so i enjoyed the ride…. Once in Grenada i took a taxi and i was at my friends house…
