Lourdes: Land of Pelgrims

Today was a long day on the road from Andorra la Vella to Lourdes France. After having a great breakfast as always, we packed and checked out. My friend had a car parked on the 5th floor of the hotel building and the only way down was using the elevator even for the car!!! It was quiet interesting getting the car inside the elevator and riding it down... very slowly down!  Once we were out on the street, we needed to find our way through all the one way streets of Andorra ... not easy at all! We found a gas station filled up and followed the signs to Franca as it is known in spanish .. once out of Andorra la Vella we followed the valley between the mountains all the way out of Andorra and into France ... we went up a steep road to a local summit at 2500 metes .. we stopped for pictures and a quick coffee. We then headed down the mountain to the valley down below and followed it all the way to Lourdes passing by multiple towns and villages... it was a long ride and add to that tte heat and it became a nightmare... we did not make many stops as we wanted to get to Lourdes early so we can sight see before the dark... at 5:30pm we finally made it to our hotel, exhausted and totally spent... we jumped in the shower to refresh before going out.. the first order of business was dinner, we opted for a buffet style again which was fine given that we were both hungry. After dinner we headed to open air ceremony at the biggest church in Lourdes, it was an event we did not want to miss as pelgrims from around the world show up hear.. Lourdes is a pilgrims town but we are not! We are just curious visitors... it started raining heavy but the service went on uninterrupted... it was a rather interesting procession of pelgrims starting from the sick in front all the way to the healthy.. they also have flags from their countries....

At 8000 ft it was windy and chilly but beautiful
