Barcelona Day VI: Gothic Neighborhood

Today is the last day of the conference so I already said good bye to few friends at the banquet last night ... I make no plans for my days they just evolve so who knows what I will be doing besides the stop over at the conference...

Well, the day is almost over and I walked for 14 miles total or 31,000 steps! I basically started from my hotel and headed in the general direction of the gothic neighborhood but there is no straight line so zigzagged my way through Barcelona stopping at the colosseum that I saw yesterday from the bus... it is a shopping center not a bull fighting arena that I thought it was.... every street in Barcelona has a character and some surprise to offer, just amazing. Tourists are everywhere off course.. After walking for a good two hours I end up at the famous street of La Rambla.. at first I was confused as to how I got there, then I asked the police and they told me I was not far at all from the Gothic area so I kept going until the streets narrowed and then I figured that was the Gothic area people are talking about... A Casbah like neighborhood with very narrow streets with tiny cafes and restaurants. There were small plazas scattered around... I tried to stay in streets that were busier for safety... One never knows in these narrow alleys what can happen... this big Gothic area spreads over several blocks and opens up to a large plaza with a beautiful cathedral on one side.. there was a large crowd watching street performers from around Europe and the world just trying to make a buck...

After zigzagging through the Gothic neighborhood for a long while, I decided i had seen enough and wanted out of there but finding my way out was not going to be easy so I just kept going in one direction until La Rambla showed up... the crowds became much bigger and now I knew what to do and where to go... by the time I arrived back at my hotel it was 7:30 pm... totally spent with aching feet.. I decided to call it the day!
