Day 13 and 14: Grenada and Nerja

The recovery from the trip from Lisbon to Grenada is over so it is time to get moving again .. this time by car though! My friend Abdelhak of Grenada decided to drive us around today… first destination the mountains around Grenada and more specifically a small town in the heart of the mountains where there an olive oil mill. This is the place where olives are crushed then cold pressed to extract olive oil out of them. I visited one in Algeria last winter!! Off course not exactly the same but similar.. the ride to the mountains was slow as the roads are narrow. Once we got to the village, we had to negotiate very narrow streets that can only fit one car, so if there is an opposing car good luck with !! The drivers have to find a way to pass and that means backing up to a wider spot to let the other car go… One we found parking, the mill was a short walk away… we were given the customary listening devices to learn what is going on at each station… not all of us used though, myself included!!! The reason being, i already know the process. However, having said that, i did learn something knew, the use of water turbines to rotate the mill and crush the olives! Obviously, they have water in Spain than we had in Algeria and they were technologically more advanced. The olives needed to stay the shortest time possible in their storage place before being crushed.. After this visit which was priceless, we headed to coffee place then out we went to the beach at Nerja… Nerja is a beautiful beach town on the Mediterranean.. it is currently dominated by Northern Europeans and especially British expats retiring on the Mediterranean… and

some other nationals as well…

Here are some pics from today
