After a full fun day with my nephew’s kids yesterday, I decided to return to sight seeing in Paris again with my nephew’s son, Juba, the youngest tourist guide in Paris!! Today’s destination was the famous Louvre! The subway ride and the walk took a good bit of time, at least 2 heures!! In addition, today was a much hotter day, so we needed to walk along shaded streets, Champs Elise being one of them! However, we quickly found out that walking on the Champs Elise was not as easy because of the preparations for the Bastille day celebrations coming up! So we had to zigzag a lot in order to get to the Louvre… As we got closer some landmarks became visible from a distance.. the big balloon with the olympic flame became visible. Then the magnificent gardens around the louvre grounds and finally the actual enormous buildings and …. Finally the glass pyramid! The crowds were everywhere… we saw people standing in huge lines for tickets to get in! I decided not to bother standing in line, as the day was already half over and my nephew son was already getting tired from all the walking… so we went to a coffee shop instead.
On our walk to the ‘arc de triomphe’, we saw over 30 military helicopters flyby in formations in preparation for Bastilles Day!! On our way home, we decided to stop at « La Defense » another nice area of Paris with a huge plaza surrounded by very tall buildings.. New York style in some way! There was a huge arch in the middle of the plaza which is lined up in a distance with the arc de triomphe!!
